Wow! What a great question! Well, thanks for stopping by my blog. For all the newbies, Welcome! I'm Latoya and I love crochet! My blog also talks about Affordable DIYs, planners, organization tips and more!
The topic of crochet has been a popular topic, especially during this pandemic. People were in their homes and wanted to try or even continue a hobby. I've been actually blown away with all these crochet pieces on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, and even TikTok.
Back to the main question in the title, I learned to do a simple crochet chain when I was young. I didn't take it as serious as I do now. I made cute little bracelets for family and friends. Now I have a pretty large stash of yarn, hooks, and other craft stuff. I'm in my mid thirties now and I definitely feel that crochet is good for you. Actually crochet has helped me a bunch. If you follow my blog you may know that I suffer from depression, anxiety, and I have epilepsy. ( I will talk further about that on my next post) Just picking up the hook and yarn is a thrill for me to dive into my creativity. he only reason I could possibly think that crochet could be bad would be if you have chronic carpal tunnel in your hands. I sell and giveaway my patterns and some individual pieces. Sometimes, ( but rarely) during a panic attack I focus on my breathing first, and then pick up a crochet hook. Weird huh? I feel like the success rate of that is probably 60%. Roughly in 10 mins or so the attack usually goes away. My mind is focusing on something else like my next crochet piece.
Here are just a couple of things that I think help with my anxiety and depression. If you, or know anyone that has depression, and/ or anxiety feel free to share this post .
A planner
A notebook/ journal
Crochet hooks, yarn, and some free patterns
Focusing on establishing routines
My Itech fitness watch
Eating healthy.
Staying hydrated
Use the fly lady control book ( more on this on another post)
Prayer
Affirmations, and quotes.
Facebook groups for anxiety or depression
Friends and family.
Can you think of other calming things to help with anxiety or depression?

Latoya
